West Lime Creek Trailhead

The West Lime Creek Trailhead (FS #679) is located in the San Juan National Forest, approximately 39 miles north of Durango on U.S. 550. The trail follows West Lime Creek up a gentle grade through spruce forests, offering access to several waterfalls and dispersed campsites along the creek. The route is suitable for hiking and trail running, with conditions generally good in the fall. Hikers should filter creek water due to Giardia. The trail extends toward the Twin Sisters, where it fades out, requiring navigation skills to continue. Parking is available on the east side of the road in a large turnout south of the trailhead, near the sweeping hairpin turn between Coal Bank Pass and Molas Pass. The area supports fishing for brook and cutthroat trout in Lime Creek.
