GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — At approximately 10:30 p.m. Sunday, the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of a residential structure fire on the 550 block of Belford Avenue.
Multiple 9-1-1 callers reported a fire near North 6th Street and Belford Avenue and indicated that power lines were involved. Truck 1 was the first unit to arrive and accessed the fire from an alley behind the property. Crews found a shed fully engulfed in flames, with the fire extending to a fence and a tree in the backyard. The fire threatened to spread to a two-story residence on the property.
Firefighters closed the alleyway and shut down North 6th Street between Belford Avenue and North Avenue due to the downed power line. Crews quickly contained the fire, bringing it under control and beginning overhaul operations by 10:53 p.m.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation. No injuries were reported.

The Grand Junction Fire Department urges residents to use extreme caution during the current period of hot, dry, and windy weather. These conditions significantly increase fire danger and can allow even small fires to spread rapidly.
Residents are encouraged to:

Avoid parking vehicles on dry grass.
Use caution when operating equipment that may produce sparks.
Ensure trailer safety chains are properly secured and do not drag on roadways, where they can create sparks.
