City of Aspen installs seven new public electric vehicle charging stations

**Aspen, CO **– The city of Aspen has added seven new Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across four locations, adding 14 publicly accessible EV charging spaces.

The project advances the city's Public EV Charging Infrastructure Master Plan, which guides the development of Aspen's public charging network. With the addition of the new stations, Aspen now offers 38 public EV charging spaces citywide achieving its goal outlined in the EV masterplan. The following are the new charging locations:

  • Aspen Recreation Center: Two stations (four charging spaces)

  • Aspen Golf Club/Nordic Center: Two stations (four charging spaces)

  • Truscott housing: Two stations (four charging spaces)

  • Red Brick Center for the Arts: One station (two charging spaces)

Industry standards generally consider 20% utilization to be a strong performance benchmark for public EV charging stations, and data shows that several Aspen charging locations exceed 60% utilization during peak seasons.

“The utilization data shows that Aspen’s public EV charging network is serving a clear need in the community,” said Tim Karfs, the city's sustainability programs administrator. “By adding these new chargers, the city is increasing capacity in response to demonstrated usage while supporting its greenhouse gas reduction goals.”

The project reflects years of planning and collaboration among the city’s environmental health and sustainability, engineering, parking, parks and recreation, and Aspen Utilities departments. Partnerships with Holy Cross Energy and the Aspen/Pitkin County Housing Authority also played an important role in successfully implementing the project.
