Durango, CO: **The Durango City Council voted to amend the city’s 2026 Capital Budget during its regular council meeting to reflect revised cost estimates for infrastructure projects and reallocation of funds to address maintenance needs.
The amendments include adjustments commonly made during mid‑year reviews of capital spending. Examples include additional funding for the Roosa Connect project to cover required 3rd-party inspection services and allocating a $20,000 donation from Durango Montessori toward the replacement of the Mason Center playground.
Councilors held their regular meeting on Tuesday, July 21, at 5:30 p.m. at council chambers, 949 East Second Ave., where they:
Heard a presentation from staff with recommendations on how to improve the process for starting a business in Durango. Staff met with more than 70 local business owners to receive feedback on the start-up experience in Durango. Business owners feel the start-up process is fragmented across different portals, departments, and agencies.
Voted to approve an ordinance that authorizes the city to execute a sublease with Fort Lewis College for space in the Main Mall, located at 835 Main Ave., to establish a collaborative community hub. As part of the New City Hall project, the Community Development and Engineering Building is anticipated to be demolished, requiring the temporary relocation of several city staff and operations. Rather than pursuing conventional temporary office space, the city has the opportunity to locate within Fort Lewis College's Center for Innovation.
Voted to approve three ordinances that authorize the lease of three aircraft hangars at the Durango-La Plata County Airport.
